Free Muni for Youth Pilot Program
SFMTA is offering low and moderate income students residing in San
Francisco free access to Muni for a 16-month period when using a
Clipper card. They are asking for student age verification but not family income verification. This will come in handy for field trips, and I just want to pass along the info.....

Some Extra Curricular Activities.....
Taiko with Melody Sensei has started! There was no taiko class while I was a JBBP student (many, many years ago), and we are so luck to have this opportunity now. The students are always looking forward to Tuesday with Melody Sensei! The fourth graders are observing and learning from the fifth graders who started taiko last year. Loving the teamwork!
Ms. Sarah is the new upper grade librarian. I know first hand how passionate she is about children literacy. We both went through the credential program together, and she is definitely the one to go to when it comes to books! Students will be able to check out books in our beautiful newly updated library starting tomorrow!
And who doesn't enjoy p.e with Clarendon alumni, Coach Marc!? Rain or shine, students love spending time with him and getting in shape. The fifth graders are required to do a timed mile run. Both forth and fifth graders will be working on running/jogging techniques and pacing this year.

Back to School Night
Thank you for attending Back to School Night! Please continue to share your questions and comments with me. I have a few extra back to school night packets, so please let me know if you need another one. We didn't have much time to pass around the party and other volunteering sign-ups; our parent coordinators will try to get that out via e-mail.

Help Wanted
We have curbside duty September 16-20th. If you can help out, please contact Berni (Maya's mom) or talk to me. We need 3-4 volunteers each morning from around 9:00-9:30. Thank you!
I have created a classroom wishlist on Amazon. Items do not need to be purchased from Amazon (we are completely OK with extra household items and used items)! I have already purchased our absolute necessary items, but anything on this list will help out significantly. If you do purchase from Amazon, items will be directly shipped to school.
Most needed items on the list: disinfecting wipes (we have 0), band-aids, tissue, high-lighters, post-its

Friday Fun Day
Someone stole our class raffle jar on Friday, and it was up to the
forensic scientists to solve the crime! With just a ransom note and a
description of suspects, the scientists were able to solve the mystery!
As a class, the scientists decided to use their chromatography skills to
figure out what type of marker was used to write the ransom note. Using the technique of paper chromatography with coffee filters, black ink, and water, scientists tested a number of markers and uncovered the pigments that are combined to make black inks. By comparing the results of different markers with the results of the ransom note, the scientists identified the mystery pen (Mr. Sketch) that was used to write the note. Then, they used their comprehension skills to connect Larry Labrador to
the marker. What smarties!
Students love playing the factor game. This is a fun game to practice factors up to 30, brush up on multiplication facts, and learn how to strategize.
Students in Room 207 are expected to work together and double check everything. Here, students work in pairs to follow written instructions to extract DNA from strawberries.

How to Cover your Textbook with a Paper Bag
If anyone is interested in covering their textbook, this video should help! Also, if you bring in a paper bag, we can cover your book together during recess the first week of Sepetember (sorry, I have recess duty all next week). Feel free to decorate your cover, but remember to include your name!
