Friday Fun Day

Someone stole our class raffle jar on Friday, and it was up to the forensic scientists to solve the crime! With just a ransom note and a description of suspects, the scientists were able to solve the mystery! As a class, the scientists decided to use their chromatography skills to figure out what type of marker was used to write the ransom note.   Using the technique of paper chromatography with coffee filters, black ink, and water, scientists tested a number of markers and uncovered the pigments that are combined to make black inks.  By comparing the results of different markers with the results of the ransom note, the scientists identified the mystery pen (Mr. Sketch) that was used to write the note. Then, they used their comprehension skills to connect Larry Labrador to the marker. What smarties!

Students love playing the factor game.  This is a fun game to practice factors up to 30, brush up on multiplication facts, and learn how to strategize.

Students in Room 207 are expected to work together and double check everything.  Here, students work in pairs to follow written instructions to extract DNA from strawberries.

Happy Labor Day!
